A weekend in Amsterdam

48 hours in Amsterdam and tips to visit de city. In December I spent a weekend in the capital of the Netherlands. We prepared this short trip as a birthday surprise for some friends.

Although we travelled there at the end of December, we were so lucky and it didn't rain and could enjoy some sun. Of course, it was so cold, but we had previously prepared very well our suitcases with thermal clothes.

Amsterdam is beautiful for its streets, architecture and canals, it doesn't have many monuments or touristic places, but all of it is amazing and very romantic and we spent most of the time wandering the city. Anyway, there are some places to visit during your stay: The Dam Square, the Begijnhof, Rembrantplein, Red Lights District and Vondelpark. I totally recommend renting a bike and riding the streets. At the beginning I must confess that it was a kaos with all the traffic, but it was funny and we could discover many new places.

As we stayed just for a weekend, we wanted to be in the city centre, so we chose a hotel close to the flower market from where we where able to visit all the city centre on foot. Near the market there was a cute cafe for breakfast and brunch, Toastable, with delicious drinks and homemade cakes and pies.

For this short break we weren't able to visit museums, as it takes a lot of time, but I'll go in my next trip: Van Gogh museum is the first on my list. However, we couldn't resist going to the Heineken's Experience museum. We had a great time learning how beer is produced and playing with all the "attractions" in the exposition. The ticket includes three drinks and a gift (a Heineken glass).

Coffee shops are all around Amsterdam. There are of all styles. Ww don't smoke, but had the curiosity of seeing how it was. We stayed for about 20 minutes because one friend wanted to smoke, otherwise, we had left the local before. We ended up with headache due to all the smoke in the place. So, if you're not going to consume, I don't recommend it.

The whole trip was a great experience in a very open-minded city. We all really enjoyed it and want to go back soon! I hope I've helped you with this little guide to visit the city. Don't hesitate to ask me any question you have; in case I can solve it, I'll do. Have a nice week!
